NA to discuss Pak-Saudi defence pact

The historic Strategic Mutual Defence Agreement (SMDA) between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia will earn the endorsement of the parliament in the next few days.

The pact comes under discussion in the National Assembly (NA), which will meet on Sept 29.

It is likely that a resolution to felicitate leadership of the two brotherly nations would also be deliberated before adoption. The National Assembly will pay tribute to the role played by Chief of the Army Staff (COAS) Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir in making the historic accord possible, parliamentary officials said.

The Parliament building would be illuminated with green lights representing national flags of two brotherly countries while envoys of the Muslim countries posted in Islamabad would be present in the visitors' gallery of the legislature.

Before the session, Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq will convene a meeting of the House Business Committee (HBC), which includes representatives of the government and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), for ensuring smooth transaction of business.

Meanwhile, there have been calls that after the Pak Saudi defence pact, the focus should now be on the economy.
