Starmer wrong to accuse PM of lying over claims of Labour plans to raise taxes by £2,000, says minister

SIR Keir Starmer was wrong to accuse the Prime Minister of lying over a tax dispute that is rocking the campaign for next month's election, a senior minister said today.
"He's completely misplaced, and he shouldn't be doing it at all, frankly," Work and Pensions Secretary Mel Stride insisted, claiming Rishi Sunak's claim that Labour would raise taxes on UK households by more than £2,000 was "robust".
It came as Chancellor Jeremy Hunt called on Sir Keir to match a new Tory election pledge not to increase capital gains tax, stamp duty or the number of council tax bands.
