SHADOW chancellor Rachel Reeves today expressed “full faith and trust” in Angela Rayner as Labour’s deputy leader battles allegations that she avoided tax on a property sale.

Reeves: My friend Rayner has paid all the tax owed

Ms Reeves’ support came after Sir Keir Starmer yesterday accused the Conservatives of “chasing a smear” in raising questions about his deputy’s 2015 house sale and bidding to distract attention in an election year.

But the Tories insist that Ms Rayner has a case to answer over whether she listed the Stockport property as her main home, and so shielded it from an estimated £1,500 in capital gains tax, if she was actually living in another house nearby with her children and then husband, as claimed by some neighbours.
