IT COULD BE LOST VICTIM
Chief Crime Correspondent POLICE are digging for the Moors murderers' missing victim after an author claimed to have found a skull that "can only be" Keith Bennett.
The operation was launched after crime writer Russell Edwards said he unearthed remains on Saddleworth Moor, near Manchester, including what experts believe are a child's upper jaw with a full set of teeth.
Russell thinks he has located Keith's grave which - if accurate - is just a few hundred yards from where Ian Brady and Myra Hindley buried their other victims.
When soil analysis indicated the presence of human remains at the site, Russell started his own dig.
He said the "smell hit me about 2ft down - like a sewer, like ammonia" and believes it "can only be Keith".
Archaeologist Dawn Keen, who specialises in the study of human remains, identified a skull which she believes is that of a child of 11 to 12.
