Golden girl Eilish didn’t sleep a wink after glory victory and sat up all night with best pal reliving drama and reading text messages from her racing heroes

RUNNING ON FUMES

SIXTEEN hours have passed since she raced into the Scottish sport hall of fame and Eilish McColgan still hasn't had a second's sleep.

It's 1pm. The day after the greatest night in the track star's career where a sensational last lap in the Commonwealth Games 10,000m blew Kenya's Irine Cheptai away and blew the roof off the Alexander Stadium.

McColgan's body is still running. But now it's on fumes.

Having finally returned to the Team Scotland camp in the early hours, McColgan was met with a Saltire covered in celebratory messages from her colleagues which had been taped to her door by Laura Muir and Jemma Reekie.

Best pal Jenny Selman sat up with McColgan to go over and over her moment of magic until the sun came back up.

More texts of joy arrived from the very people she grew up idolising. Paula Radcliffe, Mark Foster, Paul Tergat.

Sleep had to wait. Now she's back speaking to the Scottish written press again - a job the charming champion takes in her stride just like that half hour of genius that smashed the Games 10,000m record and finally emulate her mum's magic of 1986.

McColgan said: "We're on zero at the moment.
