A DAD has told of his magnet fisher boy's joy at his latest catch - a deadly samurai sword.
James McGeachan, nine, uncovered the 3ft-long weapon while taking part in his favourite hobby on Edinburgh's Union Canal.
Dad Mark said his son was delighted after dredging up the terrifying blade and was now hooked on trawling Scotland's waterways to find gangland chibs.
The pair have discovered machetes, meat cleavers and axes in their searches, with many of the weapons believed to have been thrown away by criminals.
Mark, 42, from Glasgow, said: "We were searching the Union Canal near Sighthill in Edinburgh when James pulled this massive samurai sword out the water.
"He was delighted when he got to stand and take the picture with his catch and he's been hooked ever since.
"I take him on these trips to educate him and to get him away from the computer."
Mark is part of a magnet fishing group that carries the slogan "Dookin' for Chibs and Shooters" and claims the hobby is helping him to educate James about gangs and knife culture.
