SCOTLAND’S bid to tackle climate change is facing “very dangerous moments” after a key 2030 emissions target was scrapped, a top green adviser has warned.
Chris Stark, chief executive of the Scottish Government’s Climate Change Committee, also said shelving green targets could lead to “disaster”.
His intervention came after the Scottish Government last week ditched plans to slash the country’s carbon emissions by 75 per cent by 2030.
Addressing Holyrood’s Net Zero Committee yesterday, Stark accused Scottish Ministers of being distracted by targets instead of pressing on with plans to curb our carbon footprint.
Stark warned MSPs: “These are very dangerous moments. This is the first part of the UK that has felt it has to withdraw targets over any of the climate change legislation that we have.
