A GOLD pocket watch recovered from the body of the richest man on the Titanic has sold for a world record £1.175million.
The 14-carat Waltham timepiece belonged to 47-year-old American hotelier John Jacob Astor IV.
He was among more than 1,522 people who died after the "unsinkable" ship struck an iceberg on April 15, 1912, on its maiden voyage to the US.
Tycoon Mr Astor went down with the ship after helping his pregnant wife Madeleine into a lifeboat.
