LEVI Bellfield was yesterday quizzed by detectives over the murder of student Elizabeth Chau who vanished 24 years ago.
Scotland Yard officers visited the serial killer at Frankland prison in Brasside, Co Durham, for an interview.
It follows claims Bellfield, 54, admitted killing Vietnam-born Elizabeth, 19, who vanished a mile from her home in Ealing, West London in April 1999.
A source said: "Police are taking his confession seriously. Elizabeth's family have always wanted answers. It's the least they deserve." The Met Police added: "A 54-year-old male was interviewed under caution.
"Enquiries continue. We remain in contact with Elizabeth's family." Elizabeth's body has never been found and police have drawn a blank over her disappearance. Bellfield is said to have given chilling details of her final moments and offered to show detectives the exact location where he buried her.
