Slot's demands to reignite title push after limp display in final

ARNE SLOT and Liverpool head into the Merseyside derby with the chance to remind everyone of their brilliance in the Premier League this season.

Tonight's opportunity comes after Slot admitted he got it wrong for the Carabao Cup final against Newcastle by not rotating sufficiently after a draining Champions League exit at the hands of Paris Saint-Germain.

Yet the pain of a European exit and a defeat at Wembley will soon be forgotten should the Reds get the job done in the Premier League.

Barring a dramatic collapse Liverpool will be celebrating a 20th league title in May. The pyro will be red and the party will be pandemonium.

There is still a little bit of work to do first, though, starting with the visit of neighbours Everton.

The wounds are still healing from a fiery final derby at Goodison Park in February.

That ended in a 2-2 draw, although it has not really put the brakes on Liverpool's title charge. Realistically, more dropped points tonight would not be catastrophic either.

TAKE A RUNNING SLUMP

Take your pick of the athletic turns of phrase that suggest a disappointing outcome - run out of steam, run aground, run on empty, run dry, run out of luck - any of them could apply to director Edgar Wright's high-octane adaptation of Stephen King's 1985 dystopian thriller.
