TOWN BUSINESSES SUFFER ONE OF MIDLANDS BIGGEST JUMPS
NEW figures reveal that businesses in Burton have experienced an increase in 'significant' financial distress over the past year.
The number of firms in the town undergoing significant financial distress increased by 10.1 per cent year-on-year to 743, according to independent business recovery specialist Begbies Traynor's 'Red Flag Alert', which monitors the financial health of UK companies.
Burton-on-Trent saw one of the largest increases in the Midlands, with only the bigger cities of Leicester, Derby and Nottingham seeing higher rises.
In Q1 of 2024, there were 647 businesses experiencing distress, but in Q1 this year that figure had jumped to 743. However, this is down from a high of 764 in Q4 of last year.
