Baltic Wharf No deal yet on former caravan site land

No deal has yet been reached between housing developers and Bristol City Council ‘s housing company Goram Homes over the plan to build 166 flats on a prime site next to the city's Floating Harbour.

It remains unclear who will own the land which was the Baltic Wharf Caravan Park until last week, when the deal is finally done.

The council’s housing developer arm Goram Homes said it has received the land from the city council - it was owned by the city and managed as part of the harbour estate, but what happens to it next is still the subject of negotiation between Goram Homes and a developer called The Hill Group.

There has been controversy and speculation surrounding the redevelopment of the caravan park for years, with critics accusing the council of selling off a prime piece of real estate in a cut-price deal. But the Post can reveal that the land has not been sold - yet - and may not be going forward.

The structure of the plan which will see the popular Baltic Wharf caravan park turned into 166 flats is complex and has been controversial. The council owns the land, and has now transferred it to Goram Homes. The authority's housing company is currently ‘developing a joint venture partnership’ with The Hill Group which will see 166 flats built there.
