Aerial attack of ‘298 drones, 69 missiles’
-
Russian strikes killed at least 12 people in Ukraine overnight to yester-day, officials said, as Kyiv and Moscow traded fire amid an ongoing major pris-oner swap.
The death toll from the latest Rus-sian strikes included three children ages eight, 12 and 17, killed in the northwest-ern region of Zhytomyr, officials said.
“Last night, the Khmelnytskyi region came under hostile Russian fire, which resulted in the destruction of civilian infrastructure... Unfortunately, four people were killed,” Sergiy Tyurin, the deputy head of the regional military administration, said in a Telegram post.
Five people were also wounded in the Khmelnytskyi region, he said.
Ukraine’s air force said yesterday that Russia attacked the country with 298 drones and 69 missiles overnight, one of the largest aerial attacks of the war in Ukraine. It said it downed 45 missiles and 266 drones.
Emergency services said in a Tele-gram post that four people were killed and 16 injured in the Kyiv region, including three children, in the “mas-sive night attack”
A man was also killed when a resi-dential building was hit by a drone in Mykolaiv in southern Ukraine, the emergency services said.
Russian authorities meanwhile reported that a dozen drones flying towards Moscow had been downed.
The latest fire comes as the two sides pursue their biggest prisoner swap since Moscow’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.
