WATCHED BY A GHOST

Ripping open my pay packet, I was on cloud nine as I counted out the notes inside.

At 18, I'd just collected my first wages from my new job as a cashier at the local convenience store.

'Now I can buy the new INXS CD,' I squealed.

Though my job wasn't as thrilling as those of my friends who worked at the local cinema, I enjoyed talking to people.

And, despite most of my colleagues being much older than me, they had a wicked sense of humour.

So the first time I was tasked with shutting up shop and I heard a voice call my name from the storeroom, I thought Sue, then 40, was playing tricks on me.

'Jenny, come see this,' she called.

'I thought you left half an hour ago,' I said, as I made my way towards the room.

But, when I opened the door, the light was off and no-one was there.

'Alright. You got me.

Where are you hiding?" I giggled.
