It was thanks to a connection made by a close mutual friend that Josh Evan and Michael Edward Moirano, co-founders of architecture and interior design practice
Evan Edward, first met Melina and Randy Starr. As a result, they got to take on a major ground-up project – just a month after launching their studio – to create a custom-built home for the newly relocated family in Miami Beach’s Biscayne Point.
‘We were totally synced from our first conversation,’ remembers Josh. The project was to end up taking nearly three full years to bring to life. ‘The brief was very detailed and well thought-out,’ says Josh. ‘The house had to f low, with lots of indoor-outdoor living and activity.’
It’s not a surprise given its waterfront location that the home features a beach inspired palette with plentiful sandy tones. These have been combined with tactile materials that work well within the lush environment, including terrazzo, marble, travertine, wood, brass and natural fabrics. To get there, Evan Edward drew inspiration from mid-century tropical modernism — with a gentle nod to art deco. The result is a serene, relaxed space that flows seamlessly between indoors and out, and truly reflects the beauty of its site.
