From the outside, it looks like a typical, almost unassuming, Greenpoint complex. But once you ascend the stairs (or, load-shedding permitting, a little funicular ride) to the top floor, you are greeted by an incredibly light and airy space with no shortage of visual interest. From the cascading garden to the stark contrasts in colour, Bryce Henderson, founder of Cape Town-based Studio BHD, had a very specific plan for this penthouse and executed it with incredible finesse. ‘We envisioned a space that transitions from dark to light,’ says Bryce.
