Cosmo: Tell us about the experience of working on your recent release, Jee Karda?
Aashim Gulati: Jee Karda was all about good energy. This was a show where the writing was great, and the actors were equally powerful. Every person [in the cast] was in sync, and I think the energy was just right. I had a wonderful time—the director, co-actors, and team that I worked with were all on the same page. I had the freedom to portray the character just how I wanted to, and could go beyond what the role demands. In the end, it all came together beautifully.
C: You have played diverse roles—Salim in the historical fiction Taj: Divided by Blood, a Punjabi rapper named Arjun Gill in Jee Karda, among others. What’s the one thing that you look for in a script?
AI: According to me, the most significant thing in a script would be how my character is written and how it drives the story forward. Irrespective of how big or small the character I choose to play in a project is, it has to have an impact on the storyline. Even a five-minute role as opposed to a forty-minute one is going to have a massive impact if it is well scripted.
