WE ALL KNOW E numbers are bad for you unless, it seems, you want an electric Peugeot.
The latest model to follow Peugeot's 'e-number' naming format is this new e-3008 family SUV, which follows on from the e-208 and e-308 hatchbacks and the e-2008 small SUV and has a headline-grabbing official range of up to 435 miles. Although real-world range usually falls short of official figures, this still represents a big step forward, not just for battery-powered Peugeots but for mainstream electric SUVs in general.
The caveat is that we'll have to wait a little longer for the Long Range version that yields that sort of range. The first model to arrive will be an entry-level e-3008 with a 73kWh (usable capacity) battery and a 211bhp electric motor that drives the front wheels and can officially cover up to 326 miles between top-ups.
The e-3008 Long Range, which gets a 228bhp motor and a larger battery with a 98kWh usable capacity, will come later, alongside a fourwheel-drive Dual Motor version, with the same battery and range as the entry-level model but much more power: 322bhp.
The entry-level e-3008 will be joined at launch by a mild hybrid petrol 3008. Regular hybrid and plug-in hybrid 3008s will be available later.
