A MURDEROUS Ulster terrorist was brought to justice by undercover police posing as a Plymouth crime gang, a new book reveals.
Crack officers duped loyalist killer William Fulton into thinking he was helping them in a series of audacious fake offences – including fencing make-believe stolen Lowry painting and stealing lorry loads of booze. Fulton was paid a hefty £455 a week to drive gang members around in a Renault Laguna and boasted about his sick crimes in Northern Ireland.
The undercover team, drawn from all over the country, recorded tens of thousands of hours of conversations with Fulton, a leader in the outlawed Loyalist Volunteer Force. They proved crucial in securing his conviction and life sentence after the longest trial in Northern Ireland’s history.
