The Pilgrims beat Hull City 1-0 at a jubilant Home Park after a goal from ‘Captain Fantastic’ Joe Edwards late in the first half. That was enough to make sure they stayed out of the drop zone, even though Birmingham City - the team immediately below them, just a point behind - also won 1-0 at home to Norwich City.
There was an immediate pitch invasion after Argyle’s victory over Hull was confirmed by the sound of the final whistle from referee Darren Bond. Later, once the playing surface had been cleared, the Argyle players, staff and their families went on a prolonged lap of appreciation.
