A COUPLE who complained to The Herald when their disability benefits were cut have pleaded guilty to defrauding the DWP of thousands of pounds.
Darren and Tracy Grylls were interviewed and photographed when they claimed they were being unfairly persecuted - for what they said was not using their walking sticks.
Their Personal Independence Payment was suspended in 2019 as the department launched an investigation following the receipt of an anonymous tip-off. The couple claimed that all they had done was to put the rubbish out without the aid of their sticks.
Mrs Grylls said it was “ridiculous” and claimed they were too afraid to go out because someone was out to get them.
