BIG MAC ATTACK

HUNDREDS of McDonald’s restaurants could be short of burgers and fries today after animal rights protesters blockaded the fast food chain’s distribution centres.

Campaigners from Animal Rebellion dressed up as Ronald McDonald and used bamboo structures to prevent trucks leaving four sites yesterday.

Protests took place in Hemel Hempstead, Herts, Basingstoke, Hants, Coventry, and Heywood, Greater Manchester.

Organisers said they aimed to cause “significant disruption” to supplies destined for around 1,300 restaurants. They are demanding that the firm commits to a fully plant-based menu by 2025.

Linda Doyle, 28, speaking from the top of a bamboo tower in Coventry, said yesterday she was determined to stay put.
