George Howe, 12, suffered a gash to the head after being struck by the missile while sitting in the disabled stand during the second half of Thursday night’s game against Arsenal.
His dad James Howe says the coin was thrown from the away stand above the disabled section.
George, who has epilepsy, brain scarring, and autism and suffers from seizures, was treated by medical staff at the ground before being checked out at A&E at Stepping Hill hospital in Stockport.
James, from the High Peak in Derbyshire, told the Manchester Evening News items thrown from the stand were landing in the disabled section throughout the match, which United won 3-2.
