Button tips Russell to join Hamilton

JENSON BUTTON believes George Russell should form an all-Brit line-up with Lewis Hamilton at Mercedes next season.

Former world champion Button is an adviser to the Williams team, where Russell is currently driving.

But he believes the 23-year-old is the “best option” on the grid for Mercedes, with Valtteri Bottas likely to lose the seat for 2022.

Mercedes called up protege Russell last season when Hamilton was forced to miss the Sakhir Grand Prix in Bahrain, and he nearly won the race.

Button said: “Even though I’m a senior advisor at Williams, I have to say that the best option for Mercedes is George.”
