The first victim of the crazed knife attacker in Glasgow has told how he lay bleeding on the pavement terrified he was dying.
Mex Abin was stabbed twice by fellow asylum seeker Badreddin Abdalla Adam during his bloody rampage at the city’s Park Inn Hotel on June 26.
Mex, 20, said: “I was on a pavement, sure I was dying. I thought of my mum. I thought if I closed my eyes I would never wake up again. I was afraid to die.”
Adam, 28, from Sudan, was shot dead by police after he seriously wounded Mex and five others, including officer David Whyte.
Mex, from the Ivory Coast, and Adam had both been placed in the hotel during the pandemic and had seen each other in passing but never spoken.
Mex - who had only been in Scotland a month - said: “I didn’t really know him. He was very quiet and kept to himself. I saw him around the hotel but that was all.”
On that day, Mex had been in his room and called his friend Dante, an asylum seeker from another hotel, and asked him to bring over some tobacco.
Dante rang him when he was near the Park Inn and Mex went downstairs to meet him.
He was walking down West George Street towards Dante when Adam appeared round the corner from Renfield Street.
Adam stopped and beckoned to Mex as he walked past on the pavement, shouting: “You! Can I see you?”
