The three-time Grand Slam singles champion, the star attraction at the tournament, is only playing doubles to avoid risking his fitness as he continues to prepare for next month’s US Open.
But he came a cropper as Joe Salisbury and Emma Raducanu beat Murray and partner Jodie Burrage 4-6, 6-4, 10-8 in the mixed doubles at the National Tennis Centre in Roehampton.
