Castine novelist pens tale of racial tensions in fictional Maine town

\"When she thought of jumping the gun, she thought of the gun that killed their son. He removed his arm that had stayed around her until then. She was a little breathless as well. He chose not to look at her, but rather to look down at his hands, when he said, the 'Land of Cockaigne.\"

The friendly finch that is worth its weight in gold

Our legacy

For many years during my morning walks I pass by my neighbors—a sweet couple about 15 years older than my husband and me. We have known them for a long time, but recently we have been able to spend more time with them. They are so kind, offering so many cool ideas, stories and wise advice. I look forward to walking by their house because they almost always either wave through their window, or come out and say hi, and share fun stories of new places and paths that they have discovered. Their generosity of spirit, love and kindness is powerful. It can uplift me out of just about anything and often it is not even a long encounter.

Saint Patrick, patron saint of osprey

Well, we're counting down to the “Great Saint's” feast day. Yes, March 17, and while St. Pat is celebrated for ridding Ireland of serpents (a myth, by the way), his feast day has assumed a different significance in my mind. I celebrate St. Paddy’s Day because it marks the return of the osprey to our shores.
