Town had dominated the first period, before conceding just 60 seconds into the second half with summer signing Steven Fletcher on target.
Nick Powell then added a second 10 minutes later to give the visitors a 2-0 lead that they hung on to despite coming under pressure late on.
“That’s Championship football and the frustrating thing for me is it’s not like we don’t know what their threats are,” said Jones.
“I thought for the majority of the game we were excellent. First half we controlled the game superbly well and we looked a proper side.
“Then, right after half-time, we wanted to start the game well but we conceded within a minute-and-a-half and it kills you. It’s not like it’s come from an unbelievable source, Fletcher’s been doing that for 80 years near enough, so that’s the real frustrating thing for us.
