SWISS CHARD

Mom was right (sigh) about not staring into a screen for too long. Our devices emit blue light, which can penetrate the protective pigments in eyes and harm cells. That damage can build up and potentially lead to problems like age-related macular degeneration—an eye disease that causes central vision loss. Swiss chard is rich in the antioxidants lutein and zeaxanthin, nutrients that filter blue light before it can cause impairment.

TRY THIS: 

Turn it into pesto. In a food processor, puree 1 cup steamed Swiss chard with 1 /3 cup walnuts, 1 /2 cup Parmesan cheese, 2 cloves garlic, 1 /2 cup olive oil, and lemon juice. Toss with pasta, or spread on sandwiches.
