Amy Yasmine headed to Bangkok, and discovered the duality of Emporio and Giorgio Armani's glamorous aesthetic.
EMPORIO ARMANI
GET GLAMPING
Consider Emporio Armani’s latest collection the complete holiday starter pack for the uber-glam backpacker. Picture a tourist on Bangkok’s busy Khao San Road: elephant-print joggers, paired with a loose, oversized tee, a mirror embroidered sling bag, and French braids (courtesy of “stylists” on Phuket’s Patong beach). A typical farang look, but in the eyes of Italian designer Giogrio Armani, boho—not hobo—chic got the luxe makeover.
EASY BREEZY
After last season’s ’80s glamarama, Armani took his silhouettes a step down from exaggerated shoulders to drawstring trousers. For Spring/Summer ’17, a sense of ease was recalled by way of Eastern orientation. Think elevated summer dressing, meant to be worn from day to night like silkened pantaloons in rich jewel tones (Sri Lankan sapphires or Cambodian rubies, anyone?) and embroidered tracksuits. The ultimate 9-to-5 piece? An Art-Deco-meets-the-Orient pyjama suit, accented with light ruffles and metallic amethyst sandals. Elsewhere, a plunging vest was paired with tasseled joggers, and for men, metallic suits with throw-over pashminas.
