EN LA RAZÓN EN EL SENTIDO COMÚN, el filósofo español Jorge Santayana sentencia: “Aquellos que no pueden recordar el pasado están condenados a repetirlo”. Esta frase ha sido citada con frecuencia a lo largo de la historia –Winston Churchill la parafraseó en 1948–, pero en tiempos en que la humanidad supera poco a poco la crisis más aguda de este siglo, resulta muy apropiada.
Es difícil predecir cuáles serán y cuándo llegarán los sucesos que impactarán al mundo o a alguna región específica; de lo que podemos estar seguros es que los habrá. Si volteamos la mirada hacia atrás sobran ejemplos: la pandemia de influenza española (1918), los terremotos de la Ciudad de México (1985 y 2017) y el tsunami del océano Índico (2004) son algunos de ellos. Ahora tendríamos que añadir el Covid-19 a la lista.
