Having one that’s cool and comfortable and in a fabric that feels great can make all the difference. So it’s definitely worth getting at least one bespoke suit made by a professional tailor – and maybe some custom-made shirts to match. And ladies, you can create something new or get alterations done so your clothes fit you just right, too. Here are our picks of expert tailors in Singapore to turn to when you want to look your best.
5 tips for getting a tailor-made suit
#1 CHOOSING THE COLOUR
You want it to last forever, so keep to classic colours and patterns that won’t go out of fashion and you won’t get bored of. Navy and charcoal are a safe bet for business and social events.
#2 TWO- OR THREE-PIECE?
It’s probably better to have a three-piece suit made in case you need it, but your particular lifestyle will lead the way on this one.
#3 LOOKING AFTER IT
Only dry-clean your suit two to four times a year – and don’t keep it in the plastic dry-cleaning bag. If it’s creased, try hanging it out in the shower room (or use a steamer) rather than ironing it; it’s better for the fabric.
#4 NUMBER OF FITTINGS
It usually takes two to three fittings before a tailormade suit is finished.
#5 SUITS FOR YOUR BODY TYPE
To make you look taller, choose narrow lapels and single-breasted suit jackets. Avoid turn-ups on trouser legs.
To broaden your shape, try a two-button suit with high lapels, and ties that are wider and a little shorter. Lighter colours will add bulk.
