A surprise revelation recently, the Hermès Arceau Lift tourbillon minute repeater is amazing, but not our typical pick for this section. There are only two unique pieces of this watch, and both are probably already spoken for. However, along with the Patek Philippe 5303R, this statement piece from Hermès has a lot to say about how grand complications of this sort fit into the broader world of fine watchmaking. A lot of effort goes into a timepiece like the Arceau Lift, and such watches often disappear into someone’s vault in less than the blink of an eye. For example, the last time I recall seeing an Hermès tourbillon wristwatch in person was 2013, and I have never handled one.
