Online Dating Done Right

Online dating makes perfect sense. After all, how many potential partners are you going to meet at work, at church, in the gym? There are only so many fish in the pond, but in the sea of cyberspace, there are millions, one of whom may be perfect for you. But just like ‘normal’ dating, you need to do it right. Here are some pointers:

DO YOUR RESEARCH

There are hundreds of dating sites out there, so do your homework. The first thing you need to work out is what it is you want. A serious relationship that may lead to marriage (example: Elite Singles)? Or just some fun (example: Tinder)? So look for sites and apps that fit YOU. Most sites have personal assessment tests, and allow you to meet people who fit your personality. Make sure the site you choose offers a free trial period before you commit.

DO USE GOOD PICS

Online dating is like interviewing for jobs. You have to wow them. So put your best foot (and face) forward. Choose photos that are clear and show you at your best. Not too glam or Photoshopped, as he needs to recognise you when you eventually meet in real life! Think more girl next door, someone he’d like to take home to Mum, than sexy seductress (unless, of course, you ARE a sexy seductress and are just in this for fun). Your picture should match your profile and personality.

DO BE WARY

The online world is filled with fake news and fake people. Not every picture you see will be that person’s picture. He may have lifted it from another site to get more likes. Be wary of these chaps and only start chatting with people who have a number of shots that look genuine. Stay away from someone who sends you a generic message that reads like it has been copied and pasted a number of times. If someone asks you for money in whatever way, run! And do NOT give out your number; rather chat on the site.
