Car of the month

Simon Bateman, 1967 Karmann Ghia

I purchased my US import KG from Type 2 Detectives roughly five years ago but other than that I can’t tell you much more about the car’s history. In fact, since I’ve owned it I’ve primarily focused on the car’s mechanical components, so I’ve replaced all the shocks, renewed all the steering and suspension and had the gearbox rebuilt. The engine is a 1500cc, though not the one that it left the factory with, and I have fitted a twin Weber 34 ICT carburetor set-up which has made a huge difference to the performance and torque. However, the most important single aspect of this conversion was getting the carburettors properly jetted. On the forums everyone has their own opinion and nobody agrees. Then I was pointed in the direction of Eurocarb, who are based near Reading, Berkshire.
