Ramon Coria’s ’37 Ford Roadster Venom

Ramon Coria's '37 Ford Roadster Venom

Four years ago, Coria found a roadster that someone had purchased but never started to build. His wife saw the car and instantly said, “I have been saving some money, I’ll pay for the roller. It will be my gift to you for everything you have ever done for us.” Coria was beyond surprised to hear those words, and immediately scheduled to see the car within a couple days. The trip was fruitful, and his dream car was now his, thanks to his amazing wife.

Ramon knew he couldn’t finish the car on his own, and he didn’t want a big buck shop to finish it. This car was going to be completed in his garage! So with help from Dennis Sastini (yes, the same Dennis that’s helping complete our project car), the duo completed the car in three years. Ramon says Dennis was “key” in helping build the car. The home built car wins awards wherever it goes!

My family lived in North Long Beach, CA, so you just KNOW I had a great first half of a childhood right in the middle of Custom Car Land. My first car show was in 1951 at the Pan Pacific Auditorium with my Dad. Larry Watson’s first shop was 3 1/2 blocks from our house.
