There’s no time like the present, sure, but do you actually live by that? So many of us go through life with no sense of purpose, settling into jobs we don’t enjoy and locking away our aspirations in the furthest reaches of our minds. We don’t allow ourselves to live up to our full potential. Now is the time to put a stop to this self-destructive behaviour for good.

In her New York Times best seller You Are a Badass: How to Stop Doubting Your Greatness and Start Living Your Awesome Life (£9.99, Running Press), Jen Sincero taps into what it is that holds us back and, more importantly, what we can do about it. Because we are all capable of leading fulfilling lives, but only some of us take the risks and make the changes necessary to become bona fide badasses.

Self-awareness

The first step you need to take in order to turn your life around is figuring out why you are the way you are. Exercising self-awareness is crucial, as it is only when you’ve realised what’s been missing from your life that you can fill in the gaps. There are many factors that can play a role in determining how you lead and perceive your own life – including your parents, peers, the media and pressures of society. There’s a strong possibility that your life has been limited by these outside influences, your mind ruled by subconscious beliefs. Practise channelling your conscious mind to change the way you view the world, to realise just how amazing life is. Don’t waste another minute of it not being true to yourself.
