Heavyweight star’s frantic battle with sleep apnea

William Shatner's Lungs Are Blocked!

Star Trek legend William Shatner confesses he struggles for breath at night because obstructive sleep apnea clogs his airways and must use a life saving device to keep his lungs working.

The 88-year-old star says he came down with the disorder — where breathing repeatedly stops for at least 10 seconds at a time during sleep — a decade ago and got a Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP) machine, which forces air into his lungs.

“After I was diagnosed with sleep apnea 10 years ago, my CPAP machine changed my life,” he says.

He’s so gung-ho over CPAPs, he’s now on TV hawking a spinoff product that cleans and sanitizes the devices.
