The poster girl of commercial cinema has moved on to more meaningful realms… Sonakshi Sinha tells it as it is in a chat with Devesh Sharma
The trailer of Noor has generated lots of excitement...
It’s a film close to my heart. Noor’s very real. She’s similar to a lot of girls I know, even guys for that matter… the behavior patterns overlap. The character is relatable. While we were shooting the film, Sunhil Sippy, my director, didn’t call me by my name, he called me Noor. So I believed I was her. So when you’re flooded with messages appreciating your work, you feel glad. There have been so many calls, so many messages online ever since the promos have been out. The response has been positive. It’s difficult to describe the feeling.
How close is Noor to the comedy thriller novel Karachi, You’re Killing Me! by Pakistani journalist-writer Saba Imtiaz?
I’ve read the book and it’s fabulous. The film is very close to the source material but the setting has obviously been changed to Mumbai. Yet, the essence has been kept intact. Noor Roy Chaudhary is a girl who lives in Mumbai. Sunhil Sippy loves Mumbai. He wakes up at around 5 am and takes photographs. He’s a street photographer and some of the photos he’s clicked are truly amazing. He knows every nook and corner of the city. He wanted to portray it in a way that hasn’t been done before. Mumbai is not only the backdrop; it’s almost a character in the film. We’ve shot in real locations. Everything from the people to the locations are real and authentic. We even shot in the slums at Govandi...
How did you guys manage it? The crowds must have gone berserk...
