In May 2017, India waited with bated breath to watch television news’ most popular face take the screen again as the proposed voice of the nation. In its debut week, Arnab Goswami’s Republic TV became the most-watched Indian news channel, and unsurprisingly so.
For a venture as exciting and anticipated as this one, it’s always those calling the shots behind the scenes that deserve credit for streamlining the enterprise. The CEO of Republic, Vikas Khanchandani, is a media and advertising ace who, from the get go, has been dedicatedly and wholeheartedly working towards creating the largest and most profitable news business within the country.
Republic TV is strong, fearless and independent, and it has no qualms about being so. The idea is to become the conduit to ask tough questions that help the nation feel empowered, and no one is more driven about the future of the channel as much as Vikas. Although he’s been in the field for 18 years now, Vikas had established himself as a strategizer and manager from his very first stint at Star, followed by NDTV, Aidem Ventures and the Reliance Broadcast Network (RBN). With these big names come big responsibilities, and fortunately for him, it was very early in his life that he imbibed admirable qualities from his grandfather.
