In this issue of MyAlvernia, we will look at big families. We interviewed five families and were charmed by their stories of close-knit family life, disarmed by their honesty about its challenges, and touched by their hopes and dreams for the future (pg 12). Diabetes is a systemic disease that affects multiple organs in the body, hence a multi-disciplinary approach is required to deliver holistic care to patients. We learn more from four specialists about their roles in caring for patients with diabetes (pg 20). Finally, the smaller bodies of infants and children are physiologically different from those of adults. Hence treating children often requires a different approach to treating adults. We highlight some of the areas where paediatric healthcare differs significantly from adult healthcare (pg 34).
