Where is the Money? Margins in the Indian Steel Industry are shrinking. Can you survive?:
The entire steel and mining sector of the country is pale & painted with poor turnover and lower on the ground actions. Dollar added to the pain as it touched an all-time high this July and could be controlled only with harsh RBI intervention. However, the growth story is not entirely sidelined but certainly dented.
Through our cover story in this issue, it is our sincere effort to bring out the grim condition of the Indian steel and mining sector with focus discussions on margins and realizations across products. Sponge iron has been the most affected industry with total annual production falling by 26% in the last 2 years since the mining ban was imposed. Ferro Alloys industry also continues to struggle with power cost rising.
We also spoke to various Re-rollers associations’ heads across the country to gauge the scale of the damage in the Indian finish industry.
