Gold has a special place in the Akshaya Tritiya celebrations and this year too, activity points to the return of positive sentiment. In spite of surge in gold price, jewellery stores witnessed considerable footfalls on 18th April. For jewellers it was time to heave a sigh of relief after a prolonged lean season owing to GST rollout followed by muted market conditions, inauspicious days, combined with a couple of other factors that have impacted the jewellery sales to a substantial extent. In South India market sentiment was positive and around 20- 25% increase in sales registered. On the other side mood was not same in the Northern and Eastern part of the country. Jewellers were disappointed by the development but it was better than last year. Around 5-10% sales growth registered in North and East India.
