However, the event has had to be cancelled due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Following the astounding public response to an emergency appeal for funds to keep the heritage line afloat, with the amount raised sailing past the half-million mark, Robin Jones looks back at the ground-breaking moves which led to the reawakening of this crosscountry route.
