There are certain stories that stay with you long after the page is turned. In this month’s issue, one of those stories is Living Art: Beyond Bonsai and the Practice of Connection, an exploration of nature, sculpture, science, and human emotion through the remarkable work of Dr. Kasia Sterriker. Beyond the visual beauty of the work itself, the story quietly reminds us that landscape and nature are not simply things we observe, but things we connect with emotionally, physically, and psychologically.
That same relationship between people and environment continues throughout this edition in very different ways. In Designing Comfort, we look at how something as seemingly simple as tree placement can fundamentally influence how outdoor spaces perform in the Gulf climate. It is a timely reminder that successful public space is not defined only by appearance, but by whether people genuinely want to spend time within it.
Elsewhere, The Art of Intentional Play explores how landscape can shape behaviour and imagination through more natural, unstructured environments. In Invisible Wounds, Tamer-Georges Musharbesh draws upon personal experience, regional observation, and research into healing environments to examine how landscape architecture may contribute to emotional recovery, mental wellbeing, and human resilience. His contribution marks the beginning of an important ongoing conversation within the magazine around wellness-centred landscapes and the emotional role of public space within contemporary cities.
As the profession continues to evolve across the region, so too does the way we think about the spaces we create, not only how they look, but how they perform, how they endure, and ultimately how they make people feel.
We hope you enjoy the issue.
