FULL STEAM AHEAD IN 2018
Met 'n veranderende politieke landskap kan die wildbedryf en die hele land gerus wees dat dit 'n wildboer is wat dadelik 'n ekonomiese verbetering in die markte teweeggebring het. Vir almal in die land is dit dus volstoom vorentoe soos 'n "grondrenoster" in 2018.
In this issue Prof Koos Bothma discusses the warthog with its typical antenna-like tail. This peculiar animal with its cute piglets and Khoi-Khoi name koenabab, which means 'ground rhinoceros', is till this day very high in demand among local as well as international hunters. Jagredakteur Stefan Fouché gesels oor Safari Outdoor se Gauteng Ope-veldskiet wat aan die buitewyke van Hartbeeshoek gehou is (bl 36), asook die Krieghoff-skietdag wat onlangs tydens die jaarlikse PHASA-konferensie by Champagne Sports Resort in die Drakensberge aangebied is (bl 66). Verder doen ek verslag oor die 3D Nasionale Boogskietkampioenskappe in Pretoria wat deur 3Di Target SA en ABO aangebied is (bl 50).
In vandeesmaand se "In Gesprek Met" op bl 82 gesels ons met Randy Westraadt op sy plaas Montagu Privaat Wildreservaat in die Boshof-distrik oor sy passie vir leeus en om hulle as wildplaasdiere te vestig. Hy gesels ook oor habitatbewaring en wildboerdery en die voorreg om in die Vrystaat leeus, buffels en renosters saam te sien loop op een stuk grond waar die bewaringstrategie so suksesvol is dat hierdie spesies gejag kan word.
