Die WILD & JAG-span vertrou ons lesers het die afgelope Kersseisoen kans gehad om, ná wat as ’n uitdagende jaar bestempel kan word, uit te rus en te besin oor wat vir hulle asook vir die mense om hulle werklik belangrik is. Ons staan op die drumpel van 2018 – mag dit ’n voorspoedige jaar wees waarop ons met genoegdoening kan terugkyk.
WILD & JAG-tydskrif verwelkom dr Jan du Preez, veterinêre spesialis: volksgesondheid, as nuwe skrywer van ’n reeks baie interessante artikels. In hierdie uitgawe verduidelik hy op bl 88 in detail wat soönoses is. Sy nuwe boek, Animal Diseases and Man Zoonoses, verskyn ook binnekort oor hierdie onderwerp.

Met die konstante klim in die vraag na akkurater gewere op langer afstande, het Ruger die kans in die mark aangegryp en die Ruger Precision Rifle® ontwikkel. Tesame met een van die vooraanstaande wapenhandelaars in die land, Zimbi, het jagredakteur Stefan Fouché die nuwe Ruger in .308 Win op lang afstande gaan toets. Lees op bl 34 meer hieroor.
Verder gesels Stefan dié maand oor voëljag met ’n haelgeweer, een van die lekkerste fasette van jag in ons land. Op bl 46 vertel hy van sy voëljag saam met Beulah Wingshooting naby Settlers in Limpopo-provinsie.

Cleve Cheney shares some good old-fashioned nostalgia with us on p 42 in “Hunting the good way”. He and nine like-minded hunters embarked on a hunting expedition similar to that of the 1880s – what a trip down memory lane!
