Peter Flack takes us back some 40 years to the beginning of his hunting career along the Limpopo river, in Nature vs nurture and Geoff Wainwright battles some malaria fever in Zambia in Lion Fever. Dr. Yoshan Moodley explains genetic drift using our own Cape mountain zebra as an example and how we can learn from our mistakes, while John Coleman shares a heartwarming story with us in Sam, my lion-hunting dog. Once again Ivan de Klasz makes us all jealous with his wanderings in the old Africa – this time in Cameroon with Two angry buffaloes. Todd Wells, a Mauser fundi and collector, offers some interesting facts on the 8x75 and 7x57 in Classic and obsolete and continuing the spoil with lion hunting. John Mells takes us on a lion hunt from his camp on the Charara river, with his 9.3x62 and .470 double. What is light? is the question Chris Bekker answers in this edition and Peter Flack ends this issue with Corruption – the biggest threat to African hunting.

Ivan de Klasz asks the valid question “Did dangerous game become tamer”, from what he can recall of hunting forest buffalo in the 1950s with annual quotas of 18+, it probably did. Laurence Jennings invites us to a grey rhebuck hunt in the Stormsberg mountains in King of the hills, Tony Sanchez-Ariño shares his first elephant hunt with us on the 26th of August 1952 and Garrick Cormack continues with Part 2 of Through the lens – how to choose your safari film-maker. One of our regular contributors Christophe Beau ponders about the .222 RM as a calibre for gemsbok, while John Coleman recalls his crocodile hunting years on the Zambezi and as the old saying goes, “You can tell if a person is a crocodile hunter, because he always casts his eyes around the rim of a cup of coffee or glass of beer before he drinks”. African lion conservation - compiled from a presentation done by Richard Sowry, Kruger National Section Ranger – put conservation of lions into perspective and also advocates the importance of sustainable utilization of our natural resources. Ivan de Klasz takes us on his first elephant hunt – a pygmy – but nothing more than a forest elephant in the forests of Gabon while Jacques Strauss treats us on some Bad- tempered dagga boys in his Okavango River Chronicles series. Jeanetta Selier our wildlife scientist explains what it means when elephants are classified as endangered and our guest writer Wikus Jordaan offers some interesting statistics and observations on recoil, muzzle flip and muzzle blast of a particular .30-06 Springfield. Ed Ostrosky mourns the End of an old bull, Laurence Jennings hunts a Stormberg monster in the mountains of the Eastern Cape and Kobus Schoeman & Lampies Lambrechts trace back The origin and development of trophy hunting in South Africa. John Coleman, our weathered professional hunter of yesteryear offers his insight in the hunting of lion, and we end the issues with the popular series by Chris Bekker in Bullet testing in different media versus muscle tissue. But just as we end, we serve you with a refreshing desert with Wian’s Dorus the Darth Vader rhino. Truly a spread to desire.

Gavin Lipjes shares his view on hunting big cats with dogs, Geoff Wainwright hunts the common and defassa waterbuck and Ed Ostrosky has some memories of crop-raiders in Maputaland: A tale of 3 hippos. Jeanetta Selier, by publishing another article points out the shortcomings in research, lacking valuable data in Recreational hunting, conservation and livelihoods and old John offers his valuable knowledge on buffalo hunting with The good, bad and ugly of buffalo hunting. Ivan de Klasz decided to skip his Christmas holiday back home in Europe and rather went on a hunting trip in North Cameroon, assisting in collecting trophies for a local university. Jacques Strauss, our newest member to the editorial team continues his Okavango River Chronicles by hunting dinosaurs - a very informative piece on hunting crocodiles, for sure a must read! Chris Meyer gives us some background on the now extinct quagga and Arnuld Engelbrecht hunts a monster of a waterbuck while one of our loyal subscribers from Canada Jerry Haley shares his covid-19 ordeal with us in Fifty days in Cameroon. A tongue in cheek How NOT to kill a mamba by Geoff Wainwright and Ed Ostrosky finishes Part 2 of The Sihangwane elephants while Jeanetta Selier asks the question: Will elephants eat us out of house and home? Jeanetta Selier our scientist, explains the listing of Giraffe on Appendix II of CITES and Danie Geel hunts a Cape mountain zebra in the Eastern Cape of South Africa. In our ever popular technical series Chris Bekker explains pressure to us in Pressure detection: how pressure is being addressed for reloaders since the time of Homer Powley.

In Discovering Gabon’s green hell, Ivan de Klasz takes us through muddy, messy swamps with pestering mosquitoes for forest buffalo. Social media – a willful and damaging menace to lawful hunting and conservation values, in Big Brother’s bullying tactics by our own Tharia Unwin, she looks at social media censorship and what the impact is on hunting and conservation efforts, while John Coleman ends up with a nasty sting in Crop-raiders and a hornet’s nest. After 15 years in print, this issue is the 100th issue of the popular magazine. Barrie Duckworth shares his story with us in our well know series Around the Campfire. Ed Ostrosky shares some interesting reading in his "A Double and a Buffalo" while John Coleman tells us about "The elephant that hated motorbikes".  "Dagga Boys by the dozen" - something we all dream about by Geoff Wainwright and Arnuld Engelbrecht shares his buffalo hunt with us in "Soup plates in the sand". Jason van Aarde  on elephant in his "Double the trouble"! What a great honor to read about the Somalia of yesteryear in "A tear for Somalia" by Ivan de Klasz while Chris Bekker's Part 2 of "The use of statistics to evaluate the dispersion of shots" entertain the statisticians among us. Always a treat to have an article by the famous hunter Peter Flack and this time about his Mountain Nyala hunt in Ethiopia. All these and some in the new African Outfitter.

We honour the late Volker Grellman by republishing his Around the Campfire . Arnuld Engelbrecht a young medical doctor share his once in a lifetime hunt for Livingstone Eland with his .275 Rigby and Danie Geel hunts a roan bull with the bow. Owen Connor tells us how they interfered with the Lion's buffalo hunt, meantime Chris Bekker explains why boat-tail bullets and the benefits of the design.
