Dr. Yoshan Moodley explains genetic drift using our own Cape mountain zebra as an example and how we can learn from our mistakes, while John Coleman shares a heartwarming story with us in Sam, my lion-hunting dog. Once again Ivan de Klasz makes us all jealous with his wanderings in the old Africa – this time in Cameroon with Two angry buffaloes. Todd Wells, a Mauser fundi and collector, offers some interesting facts on the 8x75 and 7x57 in Classic and obsolete and continuing the spoil with lion hunting. John Mells takes us on a lion hunt from his camp on the Charara river, with his 9.3x62 and .470 double. What is light? is the question Chris Bekker answers in this edition and Peter Flack ends this issue with Corruption – the biggest threat to African hunting.

Ivan de Klasz asks the valid question “Did dangerous game become tamer”, from what he can recall of hunting forest buffalo in the 1950s with annual quotas of 18+, it probably did. Laurence Jennings invites us to a grey rhebuck hunt in the Stormsberg mountains in King of the hills, Tony Sanchez-Ariño shares his first elephant hunt with us on the 26th of August 1952 and Garrick Cormack continues with Part 2 of Through the lens – how to choose your safari film-maker. One of our regular contributors Christophe Beau ponders about the .222 RM as a calibre for gemsbok, while John Coleman recalls his crocodile hunting years on the Zambezi and as the old saying goes, “You can tell if a person is a crocodile hunter, because he always casts his eyes around the rim of a cup of coffee or glass of beer before he drinks”. Ivan de Klasz takes us on his first elephant hunt – a pygmy – but nothing more than a forest elephant in the forests of Gabon while Jacques Strauss treats us on some Bad- tempered dagga boys in his Okavango River Chronicles series. Jeanetta Selier our wildlife scientist explains what it means when elephants are classified as endangered and our guest writer Wikus Jordaan offers some interesting statistics and observations on recoil, muzzle flip and muzzle blast of a particular .30-06 Springfield. Ed Ostrosky mourns the End of an old bull, Laurence Jennings hunts a Stormberg monster in the mountains of the Eastern Cape and Kobus Schoeman & Lampies Lambrechts trace back The origin and development of trophy hunting in South Africa. John Coleman, our weathered professional hunter of yesteryear offers his insight in the hunting of lion, and we end the issues with the popular series by Chris Bekker in Bullet testing in different media versus muscle tissue. After 15 years in print, this issue is the 100th issue of the popular magazine. Barrie Duckworth shares his story with us in our well know series Around the Campfire. "Dagga Boys by the dozen" - something we all dream about by Geoff Wainwright and Arnuld Engelbrecht shares his buffalo hunt with us in "Soup plates in the sand". Jason van Aarde  on elephant in his "Double the trouble"! What a great honor to read about the Somalia of yesteryear in "A tear for Somalia" by Ivan de Klasz while Chris Bekker's Part 2 of "The use of statistics to evaluate the dispersion of shots" entertain the statisticians among us.
