As the hunting season in Africa is drawing closer to an end, it means summer time has arrived – a season during which the African savanna turns green from long-awaited rain showers, bringing with it an abundance of newly-born lambs, calves and cubs. For the African outfitters and professional hunters, it is a time to reflect on the new friendships that were made in the bush, and time spent with old friends who have returned yet again to feel the African sun on their skin and to experience the continent’s hospitality, spectacular nature and the quarry on offer.
Our first edition of AFRICA’S SPORTSMAN MAGAZINE (July–September 2018) was well received internationally, fulfilling our primary – goal to promote Africa to the true sportsman as a hunting destination of choice. In this edition we focus on Namibia, a land of contrasts where the visitor will discover a wide variety of habitats, from the well-known Namib desert to the thick riverine forests in the north. As a hunting destination, these areas, together with the Kalahari dunes, the savanna bushveld of central Namibia and the arid, stark beauty of the mountainous rocky south, will combine to provide an exceptional experience for the hunter. Namibia is seen as a plains-game paradise by the hunting community in general but few know that it is one of the best destinations for dangerous-game hunting – leopard, buffalo, elephant, rhino, hippo and crocodile.
We at AFRICA’S SPORTSMAN MAGAZINE are committed to bringing to you the unique African experience, and as the northern hemisphere prepares for the winter months, with many parts receiving snow, here is a reminder that Southern Africa can also be transformed into a winter wonderland, with elephant, giraffe, sable and springbuck photographed in parts of the Karoo in central South Africa during a late winter storm that swept through the area in September 2018.
